Stabilization: Focuses on core strengthening. The core is the center of gravity of the body and usually where all movement initiates. It consists of the lumbar-pelvic-hip complex as well as the thoracic and cervical spine.
Benefits:
- Allows for proper muscle balance and stabilization throughout the body
- Improves posture and balance
- Reduces risk of back and other injuries during training or in daily functional activities
For a safe and effective practice:
- Work at your appropriate level.
- Practice “drawing in” the abdominals and maintaining a “neutral" spine during all activities to help strengthen your core and reduce injury. When you get stronger, the next level of classes will introduce movement and power.
- Always make sure you have a non-slip mat to work on and the right size stability ball if applicable.
